Summit Ridge??

DW and I went to an RV Show this weekend and the Summit Ridge Reserve
caught her eyes and heart. Any info on the quality of these units. I know everyone says "find the floor plan that fits your needs and buy it", but also concerned about quality built. They are made by Ameri-Camp. Thanks in advance for your replies. Steve A. Dagro

Rear Kitchen

The DW has sort of gotten into the search of a new/new to us 5ver. She saw a couple of older units this past weekend with rear kitchens and really liked them. What are some of the better rear kitchens out there that we can check out. Interested in 3 slides, BR slide, plenty of underbelly storage, 33-35ft in length for starters. Going to the Fall RV & Camping Show this weekend at Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales, LA and want to do several walk-throughs. Thanks in advance for the replies. Steve A. Dagro

RE: Companion hitch, Came today. I have a question.

The turnover ball hitch was already in the truck. It is just ahead of the rear axle. Didn't measure it but it is several inches. On the Companion I have a center position, 2in and 4in back from cab I can mount pivot arms. Looks like the center position would give me more weight on the front axle and the 4in back would increase the weight on the drive axle and lighten the front end. Right.
I don't understand your question--being that the turnover ball is already mounted. The companion should only go on one way. The only adjustment should be the height, using the 2 different holes in the drawbar, or the height adjustments on the comapanion itself. Am I right??? I have one but had it installed at a hitch shop. Of course I pulled my 5ver as stated before about 5000 miles and the companion was installed wrong. Only when I called the manufacturer for lube points did I find out that the locking pin was in the wrong hole. Steve A. Dagro

RE: Propane hookup for grill -- directly to the trailer ??

Our 5'ver, I am sure most do, has a 3/8 or 1/2" pipe nipple under the trailer just below the propane tanks so that you can hook up a propane line for a grill, etc.
Has anyone done this and who sells the hose and/or hardware that I need? I have a Weber Q grill if that makes a difference.
Your help would be appreciated.
Bigdon68
I put a "T" where the elbow was and went to Camping World and bought a quick connect with a cut-off all in one. Actually put in 2 of them and they work great on my BIG GAS Grill. Just make sure you get the right male connect for the quick connect. Steve

RE: New 5ver: Cardinal, Montana, Bighorn,Jayco Designer

We narrowed our search down to the Montana, Cedar Creek, and Cardinal. Then found a dealer that sold all 3. That made it easy to compare each for what WE wanted. We spent a lot of time going from one to the other and finally decided on the Montana. Something about it just kept pulling us back to it. And a lot of searching on the web it appeared that all the above had about equal customer satisfaction. That was a little over a year ago, 6000+ miles, and 50 nights in it. One trip back to the dealer for a minor warranty item. A few minor things I have done myself such as tightening loose screws. I am very happy with our choice.
That sounds almost too good to be true. I've never found a dealer that has more than 1 brand that I'm interested in. That would definitely save time, fuel and the "what did that other 5ver have in it" syndrome. Thanks for the comments and keep'em coming. Steve A. Dagro

RE: New Duramax/Allison

I have a GMC 3500 Duramax long box w/SRW. Bought it Dec. '07. 15-16 mpg hwy empty. 10-11 mpg towing. What a nicer ride over my '03 2500 short box. 34 gal tank(I think) Trying to figure out the towing capacity. I don't think about it til its midnight and I'm sitting in front of the computer. Go figure. Trying to upgrade from my 30ft 5ver to a 35-38fter. Steve A. Dagro

New 5ver: Cardinal, Montana, Bighorn,Jayco Designer

Looking at upgrading my Wildcat by Forest River. Been researching Cardinal by Forest River, Montana by Keystone, Bighorn by Heartland or Jaycos' Designer. Any negatives on these? How would you all rank them. I know personal preference comes into play but as far as quality built are these 4 in the same ball park with each other. Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Steve A. Dagro

RE: Can you shred these for me please?

I have a 2004 Wildcat 29RLKS. My first RV. Bought it used in Jan. '06. We love it.BUT I think the Jayco is definitely better built and better workmanship in it than the Wildcat. Bedroom slide will be a must in our next one. Next one(probably within the next yr) won't be a Wildcat. Either Jayco Designer, high-end Heartland or such. I never stop looking.........Steve A. Dagro

RE: Hitch came loose...

I can't beleive you've been mounting hitch that way for that long and it hasn't come loose before now. I'm not one to be critical of someone else's action but this was a dumb move, however luck prevailed. There are too many things that can go wrong that you can't control, I'll be damned if I'll leave anything to chance. Guess you can look at this as a learning experience and luckily not much damage. Could have been a disaster. JMOA Steve A. Dagro

RE: Battery Switch

I guess in the front comp. right next to the battery box would be the best place. I was thinking how hard it would be to get to with the 5ver hooked to the truck to turn it on...DUHHH. I'll have to turn it on to raise and lower the landing gear to hook it up. Ain't it great when you answer your own question???? Steve

Battery Switch

Decided to put a battery switch on my 5ver so I can leave it plugged in for the refrigerator and not be constantly charging /frying my battery. My question is where to mount it? If I mount it next to the battery which is the most logical. I will have to get in the front compartment to turn it on. Any suggestions. I know there is an easy answer out there??? Steve A. Dagro

RE: Anyone attempt a water filter install?

I have a 2004 Wildcat by Forest River. It has a filter system in the basement. Last month while in Gulf Shores the clear cannister broke right off at the threads. Drove 20+ miles to CW and was told to go to another rv supply store. To make a long story short ended up @ Lowes(5 miles from campground. They had the same exact filter set-up. All I did was unscrew the broken cannister and screw the new one on. I had a blue filter from CW which was well worth its $30.00 price tag. Never had a problem w/taste or particles. The new one came with a cheapo paper filter and can't wait to go back to CW and get the good one. Has anyone ever had the clear plastic housing/cannister break as mine did? Guess it may be these fine Louisiana highways I travel.............Steve A. Dagro

RE: New Dometic Recall Initiated March 11, 2008

Hi guys. I guess I've been under a rock or something. A fellow camper brought this new recall to my attention a few weeks ago and my refer is on the list. What do I do now? Do I contact Dometic? I bought my 5th wheel from an individual. However I received the first recall notice and it did not apply to me. Never got the expanded recall. I await someones reply. Steve A. Dagro

RE: Rear Wheels

I have a 2004-30 ft Wildcat by Forest River and a 2008 #500 GMC Crew Cab LWB with SRW and the ride is great. Had a 2500 SWB prior to new truck and the difference is daylight and dark. Remember the width will change drastically with the dually. If you will be towing 90% of the time dually MAY be better. Seems I've read that the length of a truck is easier to get used to than the width. I was told when I was trying to decide between SRW and DRW to say good-bye to drive thrus and parking close to stores in parking lots. Guess it really comes down to what you want. Steve A. Dagro

RE: Wet awnings

I may leave the trailer at the dealer and hope the parts get there in a few days. Then I'll just pull the trailer from the dealer to my next destination. It's tough typing with my fingers crossed! :)
I tried cleaning the awning of my previous travel trailer. Used a mixture of water and bleach. Had to buy new clothes as a result since I forgot about the drips! :B
Shiloh
RELAX!! I think you are over reacting. I've left my awning sit up wet before and everything was fine. As said earlier in this post it's the dirt that causes the mold not necessary the water. The material is mold resistant/proof. As long as you keep it clean you should be O.K.

RE: B&W 5th Wheel Companion

I had to leave for a while and when I returned all my questions were answered. Thanks a million guys. I CAN DO THIS. If the installer had given me the directions/manual in the first place, I wouldn't have traveled over 3000 miles with the hitch installed wrong. I'll have tell the DW that truly must be living right. Especially with the bumpy road we have in La. I-55 is horrible. Again guys...THANK YOU!!!! Steve A. Dagro

B&W 5th Wheel Companion

Anyone out there with a B&W 5th Wheel Companion? This is my story. Bought a new truck in Dec''08 and dealer had the hitch put in. No manual given. Been working fine. Yesterday I decided to email the manufacturer to get the 2 page manual to find the lubrication points. As I was reading the removal/replace section, I discovered my hitch didn't look like the one in the pics. Diagram shows/says the RV post when installed correct should have 1/4-1" gap between the top of the rv post and the hitch base where the draw down screw goes. Mine is flush up against the rv post. Also says that when base is installed correctly the pull pen in the tire well should not dis-engage. Mine does. Could the installer have used the wrong hole on the rv post and thats whats making it ride too high?? Just trying to figure it out without removing the entire hitch. I know its pretty simple, but I am mechanically challenged to say the least. I await someones speedy reply. We are leaving on a weekend trip tomorrow evening.
Steve A. Dagro
P.S. I have logged 6 trips and some 3200 miles with no problems. But now I know about the problem and paranoid. Am I over-reacting?? To many things can go wrong that you can't control, I hate to do some bonehead thing and do major damage.

RE: CG's in LA or MS?

Best bet for overnight would be Lakeside in Livingston,LA. 1 mile off of
I-12. Pool, 17 acre lake. Lots of concrete and little shade. Super clean park. We've stayed there a couple of times just for a quick get away. Tickfaw SP is probably 10 miles off of I-12. Also a small campground in Hammond,LA Used to be a KOA but changed owners recently/ Have to take 1-12 to I-55 South to US 51. Take left @ 1st traffic light, cross over I-55 next to Catfish Charlie's Seafood & Steaks. Hope this helps. Steve A. Dagro

RE: Think We're Going Back

Must be a small 5ver or you were pulling down hill a lot to get 14-16MPG towing. I think I'll stick to my quiet Duramax and get 11MPG. Steve A. Dagro
